CCTV is used to monitor both homes and commercial properties. It is an effective way of being able to see anyone invading your property and can also provide evidence in the event of any court proceedings.
There are different options available including Analog, HD and IP CCTV.
Analog refers to a specific type of CCTV camera. These are ideal if you want a basic video that people can monitor.
These were traditionally used in CCTV systems with VHS tapes using analogue signals and providing standard definition pictures.
In recent times new options have also become available. Most people are aware of HD in terms of high definition TVs. Often these are marketed in terms of the clearer images they offer.
In the case of security footage, this becomes more important as it becomes easier to identify someone if they have invaded your property.
There are also systems now that store video on DVR hard drives as opposed to tapes.
When choosing a system, think about the storage limits that are on these hard drives and if they are compatible with your current computer setup.
IP (Internet protocol) cameras connect to a wireless network. These are ideal as they send out to a specific address as opposed to using tapes or hard drives.
The best option
Choosing the best option will depend on your personal requirement. Some are better for smaller environments such as offices while others can be better equipped for outdoor usage.
Another factor is whether or not you want a camera purely for recording purposes or to act as a deterrent. A larger camera stationed outside is often a clear indicator to a potential burglar that it might not be worth the effort to target your property.
Alternatively, other people may prefer a more covert form of surveillance where the cameras are less obvious and therefore offer more discrete monitoring.
There are also apps available that allow you to remotely check in real time, ideal if you are away from home or if you are alerted about a disturbance at your commercial property after hours.
If it turns out to be a false alarm, you have not wasted any time and if it is a genuine threat then you can alert the authorities without any threat to you.
